From Measurements to Forecasts: The Role of Earth Observation in Air Quality Monitoring
The CLEAR-EO Air Quality Webinar explores how satellite observations, ground-based measurements, atmospheric modelling, and AI-driven analytics are transforming urban air quality monitoring and forecasting. Bringing together experts from the CLEAR-EO consortium and leading research organizations, the webinar highlights how Earth observation data can support healthier, more resilient cities and improved environmental decision-making.
The session opens with an introduction by Paolo Viviani and Ines Makni, presenting the CLEAR-EO vision for urban air quality intelligence. Presentations will then explore the latest advances in space-borne atmospheric observations and synergistic monitoring approaches by Pavel Lytvynov from GRASP Earth, the role of ground-based instrumentation for integrated air quality monitoring by Yenny González Ramos, and operational use of satellite observations for air quality services in France and Europe by Antoine Guion from INERIS.
The webinar concludes with an open discussion on the future of integrated atmospheric intelligence, Earth observation services, and AI-enabled urban air quality applications within European initiatives such as Copernicus Programme and Destination Earth.
